MENDON: Holly L. MacKenzie, age 28, of Mendon, formerly of Norfolk, died at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, RI, on March 14, 2013, after many long and difficult years battling drug abuse and addiction. She was beloved life partner of Heather Gilmore. Born in Milford on November 18, 1984, she was the devoted daughter of Elizabeth A. Ryden, currently of Milford, and David F. MacKenzie of Mendon. Raised primarily in Norfolk, Holly attended King Philip Regional Schools in Wrentham and, after moving with her father to Mendon, the Nipmuc Regional High School. A warm and creative person, she had always shown an artistic flair. From playing the flute during her school years, to drawing, dance, and dressing with her own unique style. She was always unafraid to belt out a song when the mood struck – and very nicely at that. A kind and thoughtful person, Holly’s years of pain and addiction are behind her now and she is at peace. She is additionally survived by her loving sister, Jennifer D. MacKenzie of Mendon; and her grandparents, Paul and Lura Ryden of San Jose, CA, and Jean MacKenzie of Upton. She was predeceased by her grandfather, David L. MacKenzie. Holly is also mourned by her aunts and uncles, Darlene MacKenzie-Schoen and her husband Steven Schoen, Danny and Tina MacKenzie, John and Dana Connolly, Donna and Tony Bacchiocchi, Dale Fingar, and Paul and Vicky Ryden; her cousins; and many friends. Her father quotes Carroll O’Connor in this difficult time with “Get between your kids and drugs any way you can… if you want to save the kid’s life,” and please, always tell your kids you love them no matter what. Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Monday, Mar. 25th at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, 2 – 5p.m. Donations may be made in Holly’s memory to Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
