Richard Brandon Strehlke passed peacefully away on Saturday morning, December 8, 2012 at the Mary Ann Morse Home in Natick, MA after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Son of the late Albert L. Strehlke, Jr. and Ruth Brandon Strehlke, he was born in Meeker, CO but moved with his family at an early age to Rhode Island and then Wellesley, MA where he had been captain of the basketball team at the high school. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering from Tufts University in 1949 and then went into business with his brother, the late Albert Strehlke, III. He later developed and managed commercial property, specializing both in the renovation of old buildings and modern architecture. His great love was the sea and sailing in the waters off Cape Cod and the Islands. He was a long time resident of Sherborn, MA where he raised his family with his first wife, the late Rose (Barocco) Strehlke, with whom he had Carl B. of Philadelphia, PA and Florence, Italy, Glenn R. of Bellingham, MA, Mark W. of Medfield, MA, and Janet M. of South Walpole, MA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Jake and Dylan, sons of Mark and his wife Dawn. He later married Sharon Fornaciari with whom he had a son, Ryan, of Westwood, MA. He lived his last years in Back Bay, Boston which he loved for its urban vitality. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 12:00 Noon in the First Parish, Sherborn – Unitarian Universalist Area Church, 11 Washington St. Sherborn, MA followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
